EUGENE, Ore. (AP) -- The University of Oregon is one futuristic video scoreboard away from completing an $8 million renovation of historic Hayward Field.
Designed by former Oregon track star Tinker Hatfield, who graduated with a degree in architecture and now works for Nike, the eight individual panels that comprise the scoreboard were started Friday.
Most of the improvements were done to meet the criteria for staging this summer's U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials. The ten-day meet starts June 27th.

The videoboard is funded by Nike. It will rise five stories on the south end of the track. It will allow the university the opportunity to be creative in presenting track and field.
Split screens, high-definition video and live replays will augment the usual information such as lane assignments, event results and running clock.
