Report: Star Oregon State pitcher arrested

CORVALLIS, Ore. -- Oregon State University pitcher Ben Wetzler was arrested early Saturday morning on accusations of second-degree criminal mischief and first-degree criminal trespassing, according to the Corvallis Gazette-Times.

Details of the arrest were not available. Wetzler, whose legal last name is Holmes, pitched Friday evening, defeating UCLA.

The newspaper reported that Wetzler, 22, had bail set at $37,500 on the misdemeanor accusations. He was released and was in uniform for the balance of weekend games.

Coach Pat Casey was not made available after Sunday s 11-2 win over UCLA to comment on the incident, the Gazette-Times reported.

After his junior year, Wetzler was named the All Pac-12 First Team.

He was suspended for part of that season by the NCAA for dealings with an adviser on negotiations with the Phillies, who had drafted him, the paper reported.
