EUGENE, Ore. -- Two local athletes will be joining the U.S. javelin team in London after Sunday's finals won by Brittany Berman with a personal best of 201 feet 9 inches, meeting the Olympic A standard of 200 feet 1 inch.
She accomplished both on her final throw.
Kara Patterson, a graduate of Vancouver's Skyview High School, came in second in the women's javelin throw finals at the U.S. Track and Field Trials Sunday in Eugene.
Newberg High School grad Rachel Yurkovich came in 4th, and she made the Olympic team because she is one of only three American women to meet the Olympic qualifying standard of 61 meters.
Gresham High School student Hayley Crouser finished 7th in the competition.
