KODIAK, Alaska (AP) — An Alaska runner will attempt to get one spot closer to the Olympics Monday.
KMXT reports (http://is.gd/dApSVG) Trevor Dunbar of Kodiak is competing in Monday evening's 5,000 meter race at the Olympic Track and Field trials in Eugene, Ore.
The all-America at the University of Oregon was the 25th qualifier for the 25 spots for the race. Other runners who have better times than Dunbar's best 13:36.86 in the event decided not to run in the race after competing in the 10K.
Dunbar is scheduled to compete in the first heat of Monday's race, scheduled for 6 p.m. AKDT. Top runners from the two heats will compete in Thursday night's 5K finals.
