LONDON, Eng. -- Two runners with ties to Oregon advanced to the semifinals of the men's 1500 meters Friday at the London 2012 Olympics.

University of Oregon graduates Matt Centrowitz and Ashton Eaton both made it through to the semifinals, as did the third American, Leo Manzano.

Centrowitz finished 5th in his heat, Manzano finished 6th in his heat, Eaton finished 7th in his and grabbed the final spot in the semifinals.

Eaton is returning for his second Olympics. The UO grad stunned the field in 2008 at the Olympic Trials at Hayward field by making the 800 meters team as a college sophomore. for 2012, Wheating stepped up to the 1500 meters.
