Sam Bowie's history with the Trail Blazers

01:03 PM PDT on Thursday, September 13, 2007

By kgw.com Staff

Who is this Sam Bowie some are throwing around comparisons to after the Greg Oden announcement?

You might say the more cynically minded are drawing the worst possible conclusions after the announcement Oden is likely out for the season after knee surgery.

In 1984, the Portland Trail Blazers chose Sam Bowie for their number two pick over a shooting guard named Michael Jordan, who went on to the Chicago Bulls.

Bowie played four seasons with the Blazers and was traded to the New Jersey Nets in 1989, then two years with the Lakers and retired in 1995.

Jordan went on to win six NBA championships with the Bulls and five most valuable player awards.
