Oregon’s 6A Boys Basketball State Championship playoffs tipped off Wednesday at the Rose Garden. The first of four games featured Jesuit taking on Roseburg. The two time defending state champions won easily with a final score of 68-39. Jack Grodahl led all scorers with 18 points for Jesuit. Kyle Wiltjer dominated on the boards with 8 rebounds.
Game two on the schedule was Central Catholic versus Lincoln. In what turned out to be another blowout, Central Catholic advanced to the Semifinals with a 61-44 win. Brennan Scarlet had a huge effort with 16 points and 15 rebounds. Four Central Catholic players scored in double digits. JT Flowers was the top scorer for Lincoln with 15 points.
The night session began with North Medford versus West Linn. The Southern Oregon squad was able to hold on for the victory 64-54. Derek Mautz contributed 19 points for North Medford, while teammate Jordan Brown-Moore collected 19 rebounds. Mario Shonkwiler was the top scorer in a losing effort for West Linn with 18 points.
The closest game of the day came in the finale with Westview versus South Medford. Westview squeaked by with a 54-51 victory that came down to the final seconds. Austin Kuemper and Miles Gatewood both had 15 points for Westview. Kuemper also led in rebounding with 10 boards.
The 6A Boys Semifinals will be held Friday at the Rose Garden. Jesuit will take on Central Catholic followed by North Medford versus Westview. The 6A Boys Final will be held Saturday night. Consolation bracket games will be played Thursday.
