DAVIE, Fla. (AP) — Guard Eric Steinbach has decided to retire after sitting out all of last season because of a back injury.

Steinbach, 32, signed a one-year contract with the Miami Dolphins in July but missed considerable practice time during training camp because of health issues. Coach Joe Philbin announced Steinbach's retirement decision following practice Wednesday.

Steinbach missed only three games in his first eight NFL seasons with Cincinnati and Cleveland. He was the Big Ten offensive lineman of the year with Iowa in 2002 and was drafted in the second round by the Bengals in 2003.
