WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Purdue has signed junior college linebacker Ruben Ibarra and he will be eligible to play this season.
Ibarra, 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds, and was an all-conference selection while playing for City College of San Francisco, the national champion.
Coach Danny Hope says Ibarra doesn't just add depth, he's hoping Ibarra comes in and becomes an immediate contributor.
Ibarra played high school football in Chicago, and was a key cog in San Francisco's undefeated 2011 season. He had 68 tackle, four sacks and eight tackles for loss. He also forced one fumble and recovered two others. As a freshman, Ibarra played in seven games and finished with 35 tackles, 4 1/2 sacks and eight tackles for loss.
