BEIJING (AP) — Buffalo Bills offensive lineman Ed Wang says he sees big potential for American football in his parents' homeland of China.
Wang was helping lead a clinic on Tuesday for Chinese college students who have joined a 32-school flag football league as part of the NFL's effort to build a fan base in the country.
Wang is the first player with Chinese ancestry selected in the NFL draft. Both his parents were born in China and represented their country in the Olympics.
Football is largely unknown in China, although Wang says the enthusiasm and quick learning of the players give him hope that the sport will catch on.
The NFL opened an office in China in 2007 and has been recruiting media partners to broadcast games.
