Oregon's Rupp wins 1st U.S. title with late kick

EUGENE, Ore. -- The University of Oregon's Galen Rupp won his first U.S. championship last night, using his strong finishing kick to win the 10,000-meter race at the USA Track and Field Championships in Eugene.

The 23-year-old made his third consecutive U.S. national team and will compete at the World Championships in Berlin this summer.

Rupp also led the Oregon Ducks men to victory in the NCAA Indoor Championships in March, cruising to victory in the distance events. More: Ducks win NCAA title

In February, Rupp established new college records in both the 3,000 and 5,000 meters. More: Rupp resets college marks

Rupp also captured the NCAA men's cross country title in November.

Rupp thrilled the home-track audience at the U.S. Olympic Trials held at UO's Hayward Field in 2008, and placed 13th in the 10,000 meters at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. More: Rupp 13th in Olympics
