Texas names Ash starting QB against Oregon State

AUSTIN -- Major Applewhite's first big decision since being named the primary play calling offensive coordinator was naming the starting quarterback for the Alamo Bowl.

Applewhite and the offensive staff opted for David Ash, who is healthy, according to Texas Head Coach Mack Brown.

When asked if Brown would've supported Applewhite's decision if he opted for Case McCoy instead, Brown sternly said the head coach always makes the final decision, but he respects the decision of the position coach because that's the coach who spends the most time with that player.
