FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – A Portland State University track star is now competing on a national stage, as one of the fastest women in the country.
Gerrone Black placed 15 out of 16 in the 60 meter dash at the NCAA indoor meet in Fayetteville, Arkansas Friday.
The PSU senior told KGW she’s living out a dream as she takes her running career one step at a time.
Black comes from nearly 3,000 miles away, in Brooklyn, N.Y., but she was the very first recruit of PSU track coach Ronnye Harrison when he was hired in 2009.
And it has paid off; Black has been dominating the indoor season in the big sky conference. She was athlete of the week all four weeks she competed, and she set the conference and school record in the 60 meters.
