CORVALLIS -- Oregon may have won the Civil War, but it has lost out in its bid for a spot in the Pac-12 title game. No. 5 Oregon defeated No. 16 Oregon State 48-24 Saturday, but Stanford defeated UCLA 35-17 later that night to clinch the league's northern division.
The Ducks last chance of getting into the BCS title game rested on USC's performance against No. 1 ranked Notre Dame. Those hopes were dashed as the Fighting Irish solidified their spot at the top of the heap with a 22-13 win against the Trojans.
Stanford's 17-14 overtime victory over the Ducks last Saturday meant both teams finished the regular season with just one conference loss, and the Cardinal claimed the head-to-head matchup. There is a good chance that at 11-1 the Ducks will be an at-large bid for a BCS bowl game.
Oregon State's season is far from over, despite the loss to Oregon in the Civil War. This year, they're not only going to a bowl game, they've got another regular season game next Saturday. Oregon State will host Nicholls State in a matchup that was supposed to open the season but was put off when Hurricane Isaac bore down on the Colonels' Thibodaux, La., campus.
