EUGENE, Ore. – Dozens of tips have led to the arrest of a UNiversity of Oregon junior accused of burning the field at Reser Stadium after Saturday's Civil War game.

Oregon State Police arrested 20-year-old Joshua Britton at his Eugene apartment Tuesday evening.

The fire on the turf at Reser Stadium after the Civil War game last weekend. A snapshot taken by a newspaper photographer may help them find the person who caused the damage.

The Beaverton native was charged with riot, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct reckless endangerment and reckless burning.

In the photo, the unidentified male is holding a burning object up in the air, near several unidentified witnesses. The Portland Tribune photographer took the snapshot as thousands of fans rushed onto the field to celebrate and lament the Ducks’ win over the Beavers.

In addition to the photo, someone posted video on YouTube, that clearly shows someone lighting a shirt on fire and the crowd celebrating around him.

“Near the east end of the OSU logo around the 35 yard line, a large group were gathered around an unidentified white male wearing a white # 9 University of Oregon football jersey. A Portland Tribune newspaper photographer took a photograph of this person holding a burning object in the air,” explained Lt. Gregg Hastings with Oregon state Police.

And after the crowd cleared off the field, it was discovered that a patch of the artificial turf had burned, causing damage that will cost at least $1,500 to repair, Hastings said.

Anyone with information which may help investigators was urged to call Senior Trooper Orly Johnson at (541) 737-3010 or email him at orly.johnson@oregonstate.edu.

The Civil War is a huge rivalry between the Oregon Ducks and the Oregon State Beavers. This year, the Ducks won the game, launching them into the national championship title match against Auburn on Jan. 10.
