04:00 PM PDT on Wednesday, June 24, 2009
PORTLAND, Ore. -- KGW NewsChannel 8 and the Portland Trail Blazers have renewed their broadcast agreement for the next four seasons.
KGW will broadcast up to 20 regular season games in High Definition and digital signal through the 2012-13 season.
Newschannel 8 has aired the team's games continuously since the 1992-93 season.
The actual number of games aired each season is dependent on the NBA’s national broadcast schedule.

“We are pleased to continue a great over-the-air partnership by extending our relationship with KGW,” Trail Blazers President Larry Miller said. “Unlike fans in a lot of NBA cities, Trail Blazers fans in Portland are fortunate to have the city’s leading over-the-air affiliate make the commitment to carrying up to 20 games every season in addition to the comprehensive coverage of the team they provide each night.”
The “Rip City Uprise” that played to sellout crowds at the Rose Garden also extended to the broadcast audience, where KGW’s ratings were up 37 percent over 2007-08. Six playoff games on KGW averaged a 17.1 local rating.
“We share the same passion and vision for our community and the same commitment to excellence," D.J. Wilson, KGW president and general manager, said. "Having felt like the sixth man on the team with our incredible partnership over many years, we stand ready to cheer them on to victory and are very pleased to be awarded the over the air television rights for the next four seasons.”
