PORTLAND -- Days after a Unit 8 investigation showed that former Trail Blazer Rasheed Wallace owes more than $150,000 in property taxes on a 9,000-square-foot house he owns in southwest Portland, he visited Portland with his current team, the Detroit Pistons.
Wallace is now an assistant coach with the Pistons, who were at the Moda Center Monday night to play the Blazers.
Wallace refused to acknowledge NewsChannel 8's Reggie Aqui, who attemtped to question him about the taxes. During his 17-year career as an NBA player, Wallace earned $17 million in his last year with the Blazers.
He was nowhere near the biggest offender. The owner of the Thunderbird Hotel on Hayden Island, which burned to the ground in September 2012, has an outstanding bill of $1.35 million.
A KGW investigation found that the top 25 tax delinquents in the county owe more than $6.5 million.
