PORTLAND -- On Thursday, Major League Timbers soccer debuts in Southwest Portland there have been a flurry of last-minute preparations at the newly named Jeld-Wen Field.

After a near $40 million makeover, the stadium is oh-so-close to being ready. Workers were putting on the finishing touches.

The smell of paint fumes hung heavy in the air. The readiness drill was also taking place on the field as the Timbers scrimmaged throughout the morning on their new home turf.

Few are more anxious for the home opener on Thursday than team owner Merritt Paulson.

"It's just going to be intimate. It's going to be fan-friendly. We've now got 360 degrees of seating around a rectangular geometry and you know, I can't wait to see it in action." said Paulson.

TriMet will add trains before and after the game. prepared for an expected 8,000 extra riders.

The City of Portland is encouraging drivers to avoid this Goose Hollow neighborhood during the 17 game nights ahead because there will be a severe shortage of on-street parking.
