The Portland Winterhawks (1-1-0-1) fell 6-2 to the visiting Tri-City Americans (1-2-0-0) Tuesday at the Moda Center in front of 4,159 fans.

Tri-Cities opened the scoring 6:15 into the game on a goal by Philip Tot, then made it 2-0 when Brian Williams scored at the 13:12 mark.

Taylor Leier got the Hawks on the board when he took a feed from Oliver Bjorkstrand in the slot and fired it past Tri-Cities goaltender Eric Comrie to cut the deficit to 2-1 at the 15:13 mark. Lucas Nickles responded for Tri-Cities at the 16:52 mark, and the visitors added a late goal on the second of the period from Williams to take a 4-1 lead at the end of one.

It remained 4-1 until late in the second when Connor Rankin and Williams scored power play goals to make it 6-1 for the Americans going into the third.

Alex Schoenborn scored a late goal for the Hawks to make it 6-2, which stood as the final.
