The Portland Winterhawks lost 4-1 Sunday night to the Edmonton Oil Kings in Alberta in game seven of the WHL Final. The Oil Kings will move on to represent the WHL in the Memorial Cup.

Edmonton set the tone early, scoring their first goal just 1:51 into the first period.  Rhett Rachinski's goal was followed up in the closing seconds of the period by teammate Tyler Maxwell, who gave Edmonton a 2-0 lead at the first break.

The game got out of reach for the Winterhawks in the second period.  Michael St. Croix extended the lead to 3-0 at 4:41. Portland found themselves in a four goal deficit after T.J. Foster added a goal of his own at the 10:16 mark.

Portland got on the board a minute later thanks to a goal from Oliver Gabriel, who was a hero in game six.  But the 4-1 score would stand as the final.

Mac Carruth stopped 28 of the 32 shots fired his way.  Edmonton's Laurent Brossoit had a much easier night, defending 19 of 20 shots.

The Winterhawks will return to Portland on Monday.
