SAN ANTONIO -- Two University of Texas football players accused of sexually assaulting a woman at a San Antonio hotel have been sent home a day before the Alamo Bowl against Oregon State, head coach Mack Brown said on Friday.
ESPN reported Friday afternoon that quarterback Case McCoy and linebacker Jordan Hicks were the two sent home. Brown refrained from naming the players. Case McCoy is the brother of current NFL quarterback and former Longhorn Colt McCoy.
Brown wasted no time addressing the allegations at a scheduled Alamo Bowl press conference at the Marriott Riverwalk around 11 a.m.
"This has been reported: We had a couple young men that broke team rules last night. They have been suspended from the team and they will be sent home," Brown said. "They will not be available for the game and I will not address any more questions in that matter."
San Antonio police confirmed earlier Friday that two players are the center of a sexual assault investigation. Their names have not been released since no arrests have been made and no charges have been filed.
Officers were called at 2:48 a.m. Friday to the Holiday Inn Riverwalk in the 200 block of North St. Mary's Street, where a 21-year-old woman was claiming she had just been raped by two UT football players.
According to a police report, the alleged victim was an "acquaintance" with at least one of the players she met up with while partying at a nightclub.
The woman told officers she had several alcoholic drinks with the men before they went to the hotel bar at the Holiday Inn. She told officers she then invited both men back to her hotel room, where the alleged sexual assault occurred.
Police said the woman was sobbing alongside a friend when they met with her. Officers also noted that she smelled strongly of alcohol, according to the police report.
The friend told officers the alleged victim had left the bar with the two men just 30 minutes before she had returned to the room to meet back up.
According to the report, there was another woman asleep in a separate bed inside the hotel room when officers interviewed the alleged victim.
The Longhorns team is staying at the Marriott RiverCenter hotel.
Both teams in the Alamo Bowl game -- the University of Texas Longhorns and the Oregon State Beavers -- are scheduled to have a walk-through practice at the Alamodome on Friday.
