The Portland Timbers are less than two weeks from taking the field for the first time as a Major League Soccer franchise.

The club held its kick-off luncheon at The Nines hotel in downtown Portland Tuesday. Hundreds turned out to meet the players, coach owner Merritt Paulson, all of whom were made available during a question and answer period.

The luncheon was the clubs' way of thanking local businesses and fans for their support, even when they were just a minor league operation.

All 34-timbers games will be televised, the majority by Root Sports which will be the new name of Fox Sports net. Fox will also carry some games locally along with national telecasts on ESPN.

Estrella TV which, is part of the KGW Media Group, will host the Spanish language broadcasts.
