Are the Blazers on track for the best regular-season ever?
PORTLAND -- The Blazers are having their best season in years. In fact, as far as their records go, it's their best in more than two decades.
The Blazers are exactly at the halfway point in the 82-game regular season. They went into Tuesday night’s game against the Thunder tied for the third-best record in the NBA.
A year ago, the Blazers won 33 games the entire season. This year, they are on pace to top 60.
Former Blazers forward Jerome Kersey knows what he’s talking about when it comes to winning Blazers basketball. He spent 17 seasons in the NBA including 11 here in Portland.
The 1990-91 Portland Traiblazers went 63-19, the best regular season in the history of the franchise.
“There was a feeling that we could win anywhere that we played,” Kersey said. “I think these guys [today] think the same thing.”
The Blazers finished with the best record in the NBA that season. But they were upset by the Lakers in the conference final, four games to two. LA lost to Chicago in the finals in five games.
Jerome is now an expert commentator for Comcast Sports Northwest, and like the fans, enjoys this team.
“They’re on track to do something that is just as special as we did in our era,” Kersey said.
