SANDY -- Windells Academy  has created a school and boarding program targeted at young skateboard riders.

The addition comes on top of ski and snowboard academy offerings.

The academic side of the program will continue to be run by Kaplan Education for the skateboard students. In addition to classes, students will be going off-site to visit the over 200 skate parks in Oregon.

The business of skateboarding will also be a part of the curriculum, with visits to equipment manufacturers.

The privately owned Windells facility includes BMX dirtbike paths, an indoor skate park with foam pit and trampolines, and permanent year-round half pipe and ski runs.

In the last year, Windells has added a 25,00 square-foot skate park.
