PORTLAND, Ore. - Arena football on Monday night returns to Portland for the first time since 1999.
The Portland Thunder will take on the San Jose Sabercats at the Moda Center, starting at 7 p.m.
“I think the biggest difference between us and San Jose is that San Jose knows what they have. They’ve been with these guys for years now,” said Head Coach Matthew Sauk. “So this first game’s going to be exciting to see how we did recruiting-wise.”
Oregon’s Darron Thomas and Idaho’s Nathan Enderle, both AFL rookies, will play in the opener. Sauk has not yet said which quarterback will start.
“I fully expect both guys to play,” he said. “If I just had a veteran, I think I’d try to stick with that veteran. But I’d like to be able to use both quarterbacks at some point and get them both some game experience.”
Tickets for the opening game are still available and range from $15 to $200.
