NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The University of Louisville women's basketball team is headed to the championship Tuesday and two local sisters are in the middle of it all.
Shoni and Jude Schimmel went to Louisville to play college hoops after growing up on the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla reservation and playing high school basketball at Portland's Franklin High School.
The sisters said they have come a long way and they're still processing the fact that they're playing for a national championship.
"It doesn't feel realistic right now. It hasn't set in yet," Shoni said. "We've worked so hard to get here and we're ready to take on anything."
The sisters were the subject of a New York Times feature over the weekend. Click to read "Far From Reservation, Sisters Lead Louisville"
Their mother Cici, who coached them at Franklin, was in New Orleans to cheer them on.
Louisville plays top-ranked Connecticut in the championship at 5:30 (PDT) Tuesday night.
