WASHOUGAL, Wash. It’s a tradition that goes back more than three decades: the Washougal National motocross event in Washington.
More than 150 of the best motocross riders in the world are on hand this week at Washougal MX Park including Vancouver’s own Tommy Weeck.
“In all honesty, I’d love to get a couple of Top 10s,” said Weeck Thursday, “but I just want to go out and have a good time and support the local racing scene up here."
"It’s kind of few and far between of races that we actually have up here. So, to have the pro national like we do, it’s a special event,” he added.
The pros practiced Thursday and will hit the track on Saturday for qualifying and a pair of motos in the 250 and 450 classes.
Ryan Villopoto is the points leader in the 450 class. He is from the Seattle area, but has been racing for years at Washougal.
“Spent a lot of laps on this course,” Villopoto said. “I don’t live up here anymore, but when I do get to come back and weather is like this, there is no better place. It’s an awesome place to race, and race in front of the people that watched me grow up.”
