What should be our Spotlight Game for Thursday Night Football?
PORTLAND -- Week 6 of KGW’s Friday Night Football spans from Clackamas County to Vancouver, but the marquee match up takes us to Northwest Portland where the Sunset Apollos host the Southridge Skyhawks.
Both teams are putting their 4-1 records on the line in a battle for supremacy in the Metro League.
Southridge has been on a roll since losing its season opener to Sheldon, rattling off 4 straight wins capped by a 35-7 victory over Beaverton last week. Sunset suffered its first loss a week ago against Metro League rival Jesuit.
Another team we’re following closely tonight is Clackamas. The Cavaliers are a perfect 5-0 and moved into the top five of the Oregonlive 6A football rankings this week. They’re on the road at West Linn, a team that just snapped Lake Oswego’s 48-game Three Rivers League winning streak. The Lions are on a 3-game winning streak and have held their past two opponents to under ten points.
This week’s kgw.com Spotlight Game winner is a matchup of 5A rivals Jefferson and Franklin. The Quakers are 4-1 to start the season and host the Democrats who are 3-2. This game pulled in nearly 50 percent of the more than 40,000 votes cast.
KGW photographers will also be at games at Westview, Tualatin, Lincoln and a double-header at Vancouver’s Kiggins Bowl.
Next week is a special edition of Thursday Night Football. That means one less day to get your votes in for our new Spotlight Game poll. The contenders include Wilson @ Benson, South Salem @ McKay and Clatskanie @ Rainier. The Spotlight Game is intended to bring exposure for schools that deserve it while getting the fans involved. One vote is allowed per person and the winner will be decided Thursday at noon. The more people you get involved, the better your chances of winning.
