PORTLAND – The Portland Trail Blazers open up the 2012-2013 season Halloween night at the Rose Garden against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Nicolas Batum scored 27 points and rookie Damian Lillard had 21 as the Portland Trail Blazers beat the Utah Jazz 120-114 in a pre-season game last week. The Blazers finished last season 28-38 and out of the playoffs for the first time in four years.

They dismissed head coach Nate McMillan and let go of some of their more veteran players.

Last week the team also named Chris McGowan as president and CEO. McGowan came from his position as Chief Operating Officer of AEG Sports, where acted in leadership roles with the Los Angeles Kings and the MLS’ Los Angeles Galaxy.
