SAN ANTONIO – The Alamo Bowl is more than just a football game. From scholarships to collecting food, the bowl does plenty of good in San Antonio.

On Friday the Beavers got involved in helping the community.

Dozens Beavers were up early helping out at the San Antonio Food Bank, and Oregon State University president Ed Ray was part of the crew.

Some Alums were at work in the kitchen packing meals for San Antonio school kids while others labeled cans to be distributed to families.

“If there’s a chance to volunteer were going to do it, and it’s so fun to be with all the beavers,” Ray said.

“Win or lose, you do an event like this, you go home and remember the camaraderie,” said Beaver fan Judith Youde. “We get much more out of it then we give.”

In just a few hours, the food bank already collected 20,000 pounds of food.

KGW reporter Cathy Marshall contributed to this report.
