CLEVELAND (AP) — Alex Rodriguez tries again for career homer 600 tonight when the New York Yankees open a series with the Indians in Cleveland. Rodriguez is nursing a sore left wrist after being hit by a pitch yesterday against the Kansas City Royals with the bases loaded in the eighth inning in the Yankees' 12-6 win.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — The Anaheim Angels begin the week seven games back of the Texas Rangers in the A.L. West, but with a new power pitcher on their pitching roster. The Angels acquired three-time All-Star and right-hander Dan Haren from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for left-handers Joe Saunders and Patrick Corbin, right-hander Rafael Rodriguez and a player to be named.

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (AP) — Andre Dawson became the 203rd player inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame by delivering a message against the evils of performance enhancing drugs. The Hawk told enthusiastic supporters and Hall of Fame members that while some players chose the wrong road the stain of drugs is slowly being removed from the game he loves.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Opening statements are scheduled today in Kentucky at the trial of a Karen Sypher, the woman accused of trying to extort $10 million from Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino. Prosecutors allege Sypher also demanded college tuition for her children to keep quiet about details from a 2003 consensual sexual encounter at a Louisville restaurant.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Jamie McMurray has become just the third driver to win both the Daytona 500 and The Brickyard in the same season. McMurray held off a late charge from Kevin Harvick for the victory.
