SEATTLE (AP) — Russell Wilson threw four touchdown passes to move into second place for TD passes by a rookie, Marshawn Lynch scored twice, and led by their rocking crowd the Seattle Seahawks clinched a spot in the NFC playoffs with a 42-13 rout of San Francisco. Richard Sherman returned a block field goal 90 yards for a TD and added an interception for Seattle.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Cam Newton threw for 171 yards and a touchdown and ran for 60 yards and another score, and the Carolina Panthers defeated the Oakland Raiders 17-6. The Panthers held the Raiders to 189 total yards and 12 first downs in a game featuring several shoving matches, plenty of heated exchanges — and six penalties called for unnecessary roughness.
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — San Diego sacked Greg McElroy 11 times, ruining the New York Jets quarterback's first NFL start, and Philip Rivers threw two touchdown passes in the Chargers' 27-17 victory. McElroy, the third-stringer starting for the benched Mark Sanchez, moved the offense for the Jets early but faced pressure all game. San Diego improved to 6-9.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Marcus Thornton scored 18 of his 22 points in the second half to help the Sacramento Kings snap Portland's five-game winning streak with a 108-96 victory over the Trail Blazers last night. The Kings played without starting center DeMarcus Cousins, suspended indefinitely Saturday for unprofessional behavior and conduct detrimental to the team.
PHOENIX (AP) — Blake Griffin scored 23 points, Chris Paul had 17 points and 13 assists and the Los Angeles Clippers extended a franchise record with their 13th consecutive victory, 103-77 over the Phoenix Suns last night. Reserve Jamal Crawford added 22 points for the Clippers, who won in Phoenix for the first time since April 17, 2007.
HONOLULU (AP) — Jamaal Franklin had a double-double with 19 points and 15 rebounds and No. 18 San Diego State held off Indiana State 62-55 on Sunday in the Diamond Head Classic tournament in Honolulu. Chase Tapley scored 13 points and the Aztecs won despite poor free-throw and 3-point shooting. RJ Mahurin had 15 points for Indiana State.
