LONDON (AP) — Formula One test driver Maria de Villota has been seriously injured in a collision with a team vehicle at an airfield in southern England.
De Villota's team says the crash happened at the end of her first run at Duxford Airfield in Cambridgeshire on Tuesday. It was the first time the 32-year-old Spaniard was testing Marussia F1's MR-01 car.
Marussia says De Villota has been taken to a hospital, while a police spokesman tells The Associated Press she "received a serious injury" in the crash without giving further details on De Villota's condition.
Marussia says "Maria has been transferred to hospital. Once her medical condition has been assessed a further statement will be issued."
