CINCINNATI (AP) — The Cincinnati Reds finished their three-game sweep of Milwaukee 6-1 to stretch their lead in the National League Central to eight games over St. Louis. Sensational Cuban left-hander Aroldis Chapman threw two pitches in the eighth inning clocked at 103 miles per hour in his second straight unhittable performance.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Manny Ramirez has a hit and has been hit in his debut with the White Sox. Ramirez blooped a single to right field leading off the seventh inning of his first game with Chicago, which claimed the 12-time All-Star on waivers from the Dodgers. He also was plunked in the back in the ninth after Paul Konerko hit a three-run homer to put Chicago ahead in its 6-4 win over Cleveland.

NEW YORK (AP) — Andy Roddick was upset in the second round of the U.S. Open, losing 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, 7-6 to 44th-ranked Janko Tipsarevic (YAHN'-koh tihp-SAYR'-oh-vihch) of Serbia. Roddick's loss leaves Roger Federer as the only past men's champion in the field.

UNDATED (AP) — The expanded Big Ten is placing Ohio State and Michigan into different divisions. Michigan, Nebraska, Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota and Northwestern will make up one division when the league grows to 12 teams in 2011, while Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Illinois, Purdue and Indiana are in the other.

UNDATED (AP) — It's college football time with four teams in the preseason Associated Press poll seeing action Thursday night.
