SEATTLE (AP) — Bobby Abreu (uh-BRAY'-oo), Hideki Matsui (hih-DEK'-ee mat-SOO'-ee), and Peter Bourjos (BOHR'-jus) all homered in the sixth inning and the Los Angeles Angels went on to beat the Seattle Mariners 5-3 last night. Ervin Santana allowed two runs and eight hits in 7-and-two-thirds innings. Kevin Jepsen got the save.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The U.S. Grand Prix Racers Union says it doesn't plan a formal investigation into the death of a teenage motorcycle racer in Indianapolis over the weekend. Thirteen-year-old Peter Lenz of Vancouver, Wash., died Sunday after being run over at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The boy who struck him wasn't hurt. A spokesman says the union will only discuss ways to make racing safer and that it will review safety measures.

RENTON, Wash. (AP) — The Seattle Seahawks have waived injured defensive tackle Jonathan Lewis and cut four others to reach the NFL mandated 75-man roster limit. Along with Lewis, the Seahawks also waived defensive end Ricky Foley, wide receiver Kole Heckendorf, offensive guard Gregg Peat and kicker Clint Stitser yesterday.

RENTON, Wash. (AP) — One week left in the preseason and Pete Carroll still doesn't have an answer for Seattle's stumbling run game. The Seahawks coach said yesterday that all three of his running backs -- Justin Forsett, Julius Jones and Leon Washington -- will get playing time on Thursday night when Seattle meets Oakland.

CHENEY, Wash. (AP) — Eastern Washington's football team has started practicing on its unique red artificial turf, and running back Taiwan Jones is already a fan. Eastern installed the red turf this summer, in part to gain some added attention for its low-profile program. It is the only college football field in the country that is red.
