Seahawks gain on rivals, despite bye week

07:14 AM PDT on Monday, September 29, 2008

Associated Press

UNDATED - The Seattle Seahawks gained ground on their NFC West rivals yesterday and didn't play.

The Seahawks watched during their bye week as the Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco 49ers and winless St. Louis Rams all lost.

The Cardinals fell to the New York Jets 56-35, the 49ers were 31-17 losers against the New Orleans Saints and the Rams were beaten 31-14 by the Buffalo Bills. In addition, Arizona wide receiver Anquan Boldin gave his team quite a scare when he was carted off the field after being hit helmet-to-helmet trying to make a touchdown catch late in the fourth quarter against the Jets. Boldin had 10 catches and a touchdown.

He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in New York for what Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said were precautionary reasons.

So the 1-2 Seahawks start the week in third place in their division behind the Cardinals and the 49ers, who share the NFC West lead with 2-2 records. The Rams are 0-4.

The Seahawks at at the 3-0 New York Giants next Sunday at 10:05 a.m.
