KIRKLAND, Wash. - The Seattle Times reports the Seahawks signed a pair of free agents today who formerly played for the franchise.

Linebacker D.D. Lewis and defensive lineman Chris Cooper were Seahawks in 2006.

The newspaper says both Lewis and Cooper agreed to one-year contracts. The signings are designed to help the Seahawks with depth at linebacker and defensive line, positions hit in free agency.

The Seahawks have lost backup linebackers Kevin Bentley and Niko Koutouvides, as well as defensive linemen Chuck Darby and Ellis Wyms as free agents since the end of the 2007 season.

Lewis signed with Seattle as an undrafted rookie in 2002, became a starter and played five seasons for the Seahawks. The additions of Lofa Tatupu, Leroy Hill and Julian Peterson pushed him into a reserve role. He signed with Denver as a free agent in 2007, but played in only five games before he was released in October.

Cooper made the Seahawks' 53-man roster in 2006, but he was released to make room for Deion Branch after the Seahawks acquired the wide receiver in a trade from New England. Cooper then signed with Arizona.

The Times reports kicker Olindo Mare is expected to visit the Seahawks this week. He is currently in Denver, which did not re-sign its kicker, Jason Elam, this offseason. The Seahawks are seeking to replace kicker Josh Brown, who signed a $14.2 million, five-year contract as a free agent with the St. Louis Rams.
