JIM BATES / THE SEATTLE TIMES
The Seattle Mariners called up catcher Jeff Clement from AAA Tacoma on Wednesday, April 30, 2008.
SEATTLE - The Seattle Mariners, seeking cures to a sickly offense, have designated starting right fielder Brad Wilkerson for assignment and promoted prized catching prospect Jeff Clement and power-hitting outfielder Wladimir Balentien from Triple-A Tacoma.
Seattle also designated for assignment veteran pinch-hitter Greg Norton.
The team has 10 days to trade Wilkerson and Norton, release them or assign them to the minor leagues.
Wilkerson signed a $4 million, one-year contract before spring training. He was batting .232 with five RBIs in 19 games.
