It's hard to leave Hells Canyon
01:42 PM PST on Thursday, January 31, 2008
There's nothing like camping if you want to get back to nature and nature doesn't get much better than Hells Canyon.
KING
Hells Canyon
"It's peaceful, it lowers your blood pressure, you're surrounded by nature and good friends, good food… can't be beat," said one enthusiastic camper.
In the Hells Canyon area, you can raft, hike, and even enjoy a private waterfall. And when it's time to make camp at the end of the day, just hit the beach.
"You can't beat the beaches. All this white sand! And they're all up and down this canyon," he added.
They are the kind of campsites where you want to take off your shoes and stay awhile – the kind of campsites with a swimming hole at the front door.
There's just one thing: If you come out and camp, you might not want to leave.
By any measure, Hells Canyon National Recreation Area is immense. First-time visitors may wish to contact the Forest Service office for help in planning a visit.
