BEAVER CREEK, Colo. – Sign up for a lesson at most ski resorts, and it's the luck of the draw. There's no telling who will show up as the instructor. Every professional, it seems, has his or her own theory on how best to teach turn taking, mogul mashing and powder plowing. That's why when it comes to learning, continuity may be best. With that in mind, Colorado's Park Hyatt Beaver Creek and Nevada's Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe offer a program called Technique Weeks. Participants receive four days of semiprivate, single-instructor training in a five-night package that includes resort accommodations, breakfasts, lift tickets and après ski parties. "It's like a cruise on skis," says Cory Carlson, the World Cup competitor who created the program. "You board the ski trip, and every step is taken care of." Colorado instruction normally takes place at Beaver Creek, although trips to Vail, Breckenridge or Keystone are possible. The Nevada sessions are split between Heavenly Mountain and Northstar-at-Tahoe. Technique Week guests are divided by desire and ability into groups, with three to four skiers per instructor. Skill levels go from bunny-slopers to black-diamond kamikazes, and ages range from young adults to AARP-card carriers. Instructors are chosen for their energy, teaching skills and ability to interact. "These aren't part-timers looking for a season pass," says Mr. Carlson. "You're paired with the best of the best in the industry." By working with the same teacher daily, the techniques taught don't vary. "The greatest enjoyment I've had overseeing the Technique Weeks programs, now in their 13th season, is to watch the remarkable strides made by skiers who come back year after year," says Mr. Carlson.
