Japanese cars top government's list of most fuel efficient
October 7, 2004
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Tired of high prices at the pump? One solution is to
gas up less. The government is out with its latest list of which
vehicles will let you do that.
The manual version of the hybrid Honda Insight led the way, getting 61
miles-per-gallon in the city and 66 on the highway.
Ford's Escape hybrid is the most fuel efficient SUV.
The Ford Ranger is the most fuel efficient pickup, while Chevy makes the
most fuel efficient large sedan, the Malibu Maxx.
The automatic Dodge Ram pickup was the least fuel-efficient of all,
getting 12 miles-per-gallon on the highway. Lamborghini, Ferrari and
Bentley models also fared poorly.
Large trucks like the Hummer H2 and Ford Excursion weren't considered.
