An Oregon woman has been charged with trying to kidnap a baby from an Albany hospital.
Albany police said 25-year-old Trinity Vidal-Hernandez of Albany was arrested Tuesday on charges of attempted kidnapping, criminal mischief, initiating a false report and disorderly conduct.
Detectives said the investigation began Sept. 19 when staff at Samaritan Albany General Hospital reported Trinity Vidal-Hernandez showed up, claiming her friend gave birth to triplets on a roadside in Linn County.
Hospital staff checked with emergency officials in Linn and Benton counties but found no record of any such incident. Vidal-Hernandez was later found at the maternity ward and escorted away before police were called.
Police said Vidal-Hernandez led family members to believe she was working at the Albany hospital and began to routinely spend time there, including wearing hospital clothing.
