Fourth of July draws protest march in Salem, Ore.

07/05/2009

Associated Press

Marchers of many persuasions joined forces in a combined Fourth of July celebration and protest in Salem.

About 250 to 300 people participated in the so-called "Freedom March" from Riverfront Park to the Oregon state Capitol on Saturday.

There they listened to speakers and held signs such as "Taxed Enough Already," "Defend Your Constitution," "No Illegal Invaders No Unemployment" and "Don't Reward Failure." Some of the signs were more whimsical, such as "Impeach the Teleprompter."

An organizer of the march, Bob Goodwin, says the purpose was to show concern about the direction of the country. He adds that it wasn't meant to be political but concedes that some might have seen it that way.
