A Marion County, Ore., sheriff's spokeswoman says a young man armed with a box knife attacked a Woodburn Auction Yard employee, slashing the man's throat.
Lt. Sheila Lorance tells the Statesman Journal that auctioneer Chuck Boyce was reported in stable condition at a Portland hospital after the Tuesday noon attack.
Boyce had been auctioning items outside a shop at the yard.
Deputies told KGW-TV that a man fled the scene, jumping a fence into a nearby mobile home park. A 22-year-old Coos Bay man was later arrested for investigation of attempted murder, assault and unlawful use of a weapon.
