The Umatilla County jail roster shows a 21-year-old woman was jailed Monday night on accusations of murder, manslaughter, abuse of a corpse, criminal mistreatment and concealing the birth of an infant.
The sheriff's office declined to say why Araceli Velasquez-Espain faces those charges.
Earlier Monday, Sheriff Ken Matlack of neighboring Morrow County told The East Oregonian newspaper that a dead baby was found abandoned near Hermiston on Sunday. He said no arrest had been made, but any charges would depend on whether the infant was carried to term or if it was a miscarried fetus.
