Next Memorial Day, officials plan to open the Eastern Washington State Veterans Cemetery near Medical Lake.
Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers and officials from the military and state Department of Veterans Affairs broke ground Monday on the $10 million, 80-acre project.
The Spokesman-Review of Spokane reports the state cemetery will be the final resting place for veterans within a 75-mile radius, including northern Idaho. An estimated 140,000 retired veterans live in the area.
