Spokane police now say an elderly man who uses a wheelchair made up a story about being robbed of his groceries and assaulted by three men.
Officer Jennifer DeRuwe (De-Roo') said Tuesday that detectives investigating the report determined that the man was not at the Safeway Store in question last Friday. She says that when confronted with that information, the man admitted he made up the story and that the cuts to his face and neck were self-inflicted.
Police say the investigation is continuing.
