Prescription drugs recalled in Edmonds, may be old

09/06/2008

Associated Press

Prescriptions that have been filled in the last 90 days at a pharmacy in Edmonds are being recalled.

According to a news release from Top Food and Drug, police are trying to determine whether a former pharmacist filled prescriptions with drugs past their expiration date.

Jeff Wood, executive vice president of Haggen Inc. of Bellingham, the parent company, says there is little risk because most medications remain effective long after they expire. The recall was issued as a precaution, and drugs in original manufacturers' containers are not affected.

Investigators also are looking into the possibility that customers' credit card numbers were misused. Wood says card holders will be notified.
