09/05/2008

Associated Press

State health officials say alfalfa sprouts from the Sprouters Northwest company in Kent are suspected of causing an outbreak of salmonella. It's sickened nine people in Washington and four in Oregon.

The company is voluntarily recalling its alfalfa sprouts and products containing the sprouts. They were distributed through grocery stores in Washington and Oregon.

The Washington Health Department says don't eat any alfalfa sprouts from Sprouters Northwest.

Since the first cases were reported in early August, people have been sickened in Clark, Island, King, Pierce, Snohomish, Thurston and Whatcom counties. Two people required hospital care.
