Major southern Oregon shippers say have filed a petition to allow a new railroad to move their freight over the Siskiyou Mountains to Northern California after the Central Oregon and Pacific Railroad raised rates.
The Coos-Siskiyou Shippers' Coalition says it filed the petition with the Surface Transportation Board to allow the change.
The petition say the shippers want the West Texas & Lubbock Railway to move their product over existing track. It is a subsidiary of Permian Basin Railway, which operates several small lines in the Midwest.
The petition says Central Oregon and Pacific rates are unaffordable.
